How to design a bistro kitchen

Bistro kitchens are typically designed around the French style of the 19th century with their quaint charm and recognisable style elements although the more favoured design choices of late include mixing contemporary fixtures with the original French theming.

Although when it comes to choosing your bistro design for your commercial kitchen you might not necessarily want to make as many stylistic choices as someone who was creating a bistro kitchen for their home, there are still some things you should consider.  There are many reasons why someone may want to come ‘back of house’ and see your kitchen so it is important that your design is consistent with front of house and that it does include some classic French Bistro elements to ensure that you impress:-

Black and White Colour Scheme
This has two benefits in that it is in keeping with a classic bistro design but it is also incredibly practical for a working commercial kitchen.  A black and white colour scheme creates a crisp, clean and airy feel.  Even if you choose to have bright colours elsewhere, such as on the walls of your restaurant, a black and white themed kitchen is the perfect complement and will be in keeping with a traditional bistro style.

Marbled Surfaces
If you have the money then by all means, invest in authentic marbled surfaces but if you are working to a strict budget then there are plenty of counter tops which are meant to imitate the real deal.  Marbled counter tops are very in keeping with bistro style particularly light coloured marble with grey accents and they also look sleek and stylish, ideal for if you are likely to have potential customers or clients wanting to take a peek at where the magic happens.  Just be sure to pick a surface which is hard wearing and easy to maintain.

Flooring
We understand that the flooring of a commercial kitchen has got to be practical because you need it to be easy to keep clean; you could opt for black and white tiling to match your decor above or just simple wood effect is also perfect for a bistro styled kitchen.

Chalkboards
Need to constantly be updating information to let kitchen staff know what is happening?  Whiteboards can be convenient but chalkboards will give your kitchen a much more authentic feel and, of course, are just as easy to wipe away and change.

Appliances
Finally, the most important part of a commercial kitchen is the appliances and you will no doubt be pleased to note that stainless steel appliances are very much part of a bistro styled kitchen.  They are also very easy to keep clean, available in plenty of commercial outlets and add a sleek and sophisticated air to any good bistro kitchen.
